Dear Catsfield and Crowhurst Elector,
Your democratic right to vote in the May County elections was stolen from you. On 26 June you will have the chance to exercise that right and tell the established parties what a dreadful job they have been doing both Nationally and Locally.
Under the pretext of Local Government reorganisation, the Labour Government gave East Sussex County Council the opportunity to cancel democracy. Facing annihilation at the polls, as was proved across the country, twenty one conservatives with the support of two independents won the vote 23 to 21. They will continue for two years, an unelected dictatorship, continuing their incompetence and waste of your money.
All this was made possible by the Lib Dems. Of their nine councillors three took the day off, ensuring the cancellation of your right to vote and preserving their seats.
The incompetence at County level is vast and Reform UK looks forward to exposing their many failings in the unitary council elections to come.
My attention is now on our own Rother District Council where similar failures in financial common sense prevails, resulting in wasted revenue that could have been better directed at improving your services.
Our Local council is an alliance of Labour, Lib Dems, Greens and a disingenuously named group , the Association of Rother Independents collectively operating as the Rother Alliance. As a resident I have often taken them to task, exposing their scandalous waste of public money. A leading Lib Dem Councillor once branded me as the forensic bane of the Rother Alliance. This is a title I am proud to carry. My background includes Forensic Management Auditing. When I meet financial incompetence I feel it is right to expose it.
As an outsider they can brush me aside and cover up their failures.
Elect me as your District Councillor and we will have a voice in the Council chamber and will bring Reform's common sense to a failing District Council. Rother needs change and a Reform UK stands for change. Let me stand for you.

During December 2022 Bernard Brown challenged these costs
19 December 2022 Leader of Rother Alliance expressed surprise that after just 7 months the cost was £8,679,341 - more than double the original budget. The Council Leader said a full report was required. It took 7 months to produce the report.
20 July 2023 After 7 month this report revealed that the contract to construct the Spine Road, awarded to Breheny Construction in April 2021, was not a fixed sum contract. Additionally it revealed the contract was awarded without a full technical design being submitted."
The latest cost estimate published in March 2025 has escalated costs of £21,500,000 which is £17,000,000 over the original budget.
Reform UK will never allow such a level if incompetence to prevail!
But there is more... Rother District Housing Company Ltd (100% owned by RDC) had a contract to build the 200 houses with Wates Construction. This contract failed and Rother had to pay £900,000 to terminate the contract.
£900,000 for absolutely NOTHING

The Cost is held in the accounts as Assets under Construction - Not a single approved plan exists
£863,558 spent and not a single challenge from ANY Councillor.

Nigel Farage and Reform UK have demanded a National Inquiry into the devastation caused by the sex grooming gangs.
...We don't have sex attacks, sex offenders or sex abuse in Rother - do we?
Although the incidence of sexual crime is lower than the national average - it still exists. Your Reform UK candidate has been working with victims of rape and sexual violence. These sad and deeply hurt people were faced with a life of fear when a violent sex offender was released early on licence. The system set up to protect innocent, vulnerable people had failed to provide proper protection. A very delicate and difficult matter. All other party representatives were approached but only Reform UK's Bernard Brown met the victims with the aim of helping them get over the trauma they were experiencing. He engaged with the divisional Chief Inspector of Sussex Police. This very supportive office facilitated meetings with the most senior specialist officer on sex offenders. The meeting has produced a pathway for a truly positive outcome for the innocent victims. This demonstrates in a practical way that Reform UK really cares and will always act.

IS THIS THE ONLY CASE?
Far from it!! Reform UK will not shy away from protecting innocent people subject to sexual abuse.
Bernard said, "So many people have been very badly let down by officials of many organisations, Councils and political parties."
Jimmy Savile, Cyril Smith, Peter Morrison, Eric Joyce all managed to conduct their offences because those who "knew" did nothing.
Why does this matter? Reform UK believes no Councillor who has committed sexual offences, who has avoided prosecution because of the intellectual status of the victim, should have a place in a Council chamber. If other political activists know of such allegations but have lacked the will or integrity to take action, they are just as guilty.
Let it be clear, Reform UK will ALWAYS seek justice for victims.

Planning - an essential function meant to serve the residents... has FAILED
Of all Council services, planning receives the most numerous, persistent and justified complaints.
Bad decisions – lost planning appeals – £000s of new homes grant forfeited. Massive legal costs from lost planning appeals and judicial reviews. Complaints of delays in deciding planning applications. Failure to enforce elected member planning decisions. A sense of arrogant unaccountability.
Bernard Brown has stood up for the law abiding residents. Too often Councillor ignorance of Planning Law has led to officers influencing bad decisions, Your Reform UK candidate has consistently challenged bad Planning Advice and Decisions which ignore RDC's own core plan, approved neighbourhood plans and the National Landscapes (ANOB) Guidelines, choosing instead to favour those identifying as hard done by minorities.
Bernard Brown won a Judicial Review - RDC simply did not comply with the law. Councillors of other parties lack the resolve and determination to stand up for decent residents. Your Reform UK candidate will always act in your interests

In the first 5 months of this year the Labour Government has allowed 12,000+ illegal immigrants to invade our shores.They will cost £millions to house, feed, clothe (plus of course mobile phones) We need need to build at least 3,000 new homes to house them. Our young are struggling to get on the house buying ladder. Their chances of being granted social housing diminish every day. Proposed changes mean penalties for minor parking infringements will be heavier than a thief caught stealing from our hard pressed small shopkeepers. The Conservatives sold our local fishermen down the river (sea) to get the weak post Brexit deal signed. Labour have just added to their despair. The LibDems never cared for the fishermen anyway. When Reform UK comes to power we will reverse these ruinous decisions. We will end the easy entry, both legal and illegal, of terrorists from countries such as Iran who recently planned terror raids in our country.
Labour, Conservatives, LibDems, Greens - disasters nationally and now ruining our local Council.
